COVID-19 screening in Berlin schools and kindergartens
Data4Life helped test employees of Berlin schools and kindergartens for an active SARS-CoV-2 infection, delivering test results digitally.
Slowing the spread of coronavirus
As part of the Berlin Senate’s strategy to restore public health and social life in Berlin, Data4Life and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin offered in 2020 COVID-19 tests to school and kindergarten employees. The tests were voluntary and free of charge. Testing was only available for school employees without symptoms.
The particular coronavirus test used only detected active SARS-CoV-2 infections. Antibody testing for identifying a past infection was not available as part of school screening in Berlin.
Attention: School screening in Berlin has been discontinued, and we are no longer testing school employees as part of this program.

How it worked
Data4Life encouraged any school employees concerned about personal risk of infection or exposed to children with symptoms to visit one of the Charité test centers in Berlin. Those interested in getting tested were instructed to schedule an appointment online and create a Data4Life account.
After filling out the Data4Life questionnaire, school employees received a QR code generated in the app. They were asked to bring this code on their smartphones or in printed form to the testing center at the scheduled date and time. By registering with Data4Life, those tested were able to receive their results securely on their smartphones, tablets, or computers.
All sensitive data was encrypted and stored securely on Data4Life servers in Germany.
